Form and function… A rooftop garden improves the aesthetics of a suspended concrete slab garage roof.

We were employed by a Northern Beaches owner/builder to complete the construction of a new garage at their home in Collaroy. Our role was to finish off the garage with the addition of a suspended concrete slab roof. The owner/builder had employed another contractor to build the block walls and, when the relationship soured, they contacted us to finish the job.

At the front of the garage, we added a formwork upstand. In concreting, upstands can be used to create specific shapes or profiles in the concrete, contributing to structural integrity and aesthetic design.

On this project, behind the upstand we built a rooftop garden bed which the owner will plant out, softening and disguising the garage which is visible from the house.
