A highly technical concreting project on the Northern Beaches

Northern Beaches concrete and formwork.

In April 2024, our local team of Northern Beaches concreters and formworkers completed a highly technical renovation of a spectacular home in Freshwater on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

With a commanding position high over Freshwater Beach, we were contracted to add three extensive outdoor entertaining terraces that would take full advantage of the spectacular beach, ocean and headland views whilst greatly enhancing the outdoor entertaining options available to the property owners.

This renovation provided our concreters and formworkers with a raft of challenges that required a combination of experience, creative problem-solving and communication.

Access to the site was via a steep communal driveway.

The only access to the site was via a shared driveway that also serviced two neighbouring properties.  Setting up a crane onsite would have greatly inconvenienced the neighbours and we didn’t want to cause any discontent.  To overcome the access restrictions, all materials were delivered at street level where we loaded them, by hand, into our tipper truck and offloaded them up at the site. While this added extra time to the project build, the neighbours were not inconvenienced.

The steep site and sandstone rock shelf presented technical impediments

Additionally, navigating the challenges of the steep site and the presence of a huge sandstone rock shelf at the rear of the property, presented some technical impediments.

Despite the best-laid plans from the site engineers and architects, the reality of the terrain meant some of the original plans were unworkable.

Throughout the build, we worked closely with the design team, proposing alternatives that worked with the site’s unique characteristics and vision of the owners.

The showpiece was the enormous concrete pool deck.

The first stage of the renovation was to remove the existing patios and balconies.  We replaced these with new, expansive concrete terraces that provided more entertaining options and took full advantage of the coastal view.

We constructed a new concrete lift shaft to one side of the property providing easy access from the garage to each of the three levels.

The showpiece of this renovation was the addition of a spectacular entertaining terrace that wrapped around the entire top floor, leading to an enormous pool deck with a suspended plunge pool and expansive 270 degree views all the way to the horizon.

While this was, without doubt, a highly technical and labour intensive project, effective communication was key throughout the process.

By fostering open dialogue and collaboration, we were able to find solutions that met the owner’s vision and expectations for this breathtaking renovation.
