A fresh foundation for a historic North Shore property.

Being part of the renovation of this character-filled Pymble home was a rewarding and inspiring experience for our team of concreters, formworkers, and steel fixers. This transformation of a charming 120-year-old residence highlights how thoughtful design, quality concreting, and expert formwork can modernise a heritage property while staying true to its original character.

The renovation began with the complete removal of the existing timber ground floors, which had deteriorated significantly due to age. Some sections of the original flooring had rotted, while others had been affected by subsidence – a common issue in older homes. We replaced the compromised structure with a slab-on-ground concrete floor, providing a durable foundation for the new kitchen and a large, open-plan living area.

This upgrade not only improves the structural integrity of the home but also creates an open place space for contemporary living.

Another major improvement was the addition of a new concrete slab for a double lock-up garage. Previously, the property had no on-site parking, so this addition offers significant convenience and value.

The garage was designed with internal access directly into the new kitchen. We also connected the garage to the existing bitumen driveway, maintaining consistency with the surrounding homes in this classic North Shore neighbourhood.

Externally, we carried out the concreting works that formed the foundation of the landscaping design. This included pouring footings for a series of retaining walls, ready for the builder to complete the blockwork. Once the walls were in place, we returned to form and pour the surrounding pathways and perimeter stairs, enhancing both the functionality and visual appeal of the outdoor spaces.

At the rear of the home, an old patio slab had suffered extensive cracking and disrepair over the years. This was demolished and replaced with a new concrete slab that will form the base of a revitalised indoor/outdoor courtyard. With the existing roof and skylights retained, this new alfresco space will be perfect for year round entertaining.
