This Fairfield medical centre was installing a new imaging machine at their premises. Before taking delivery, the concrete slab floor was tested and deemed not structurally strong enough for the correct operation of the imaging equipment. Tests found the floor had a 15 mpa* rating which would lead to excessive machine vibration. A 300mm concrete slab with a 40 mpa rating was the minimum requirement.

The medical centre’s director contacted us personally, enquiring whether we could undertake the work after hours when it was closed to the public. We were happy to oblige. We liaised directly with the medical equipment suppliers to discuss the remedial works required.

To start work, we arrived onsite at 5pm, as soon as the centre was closed to the public. The first step was to cut out a section of the existing concrete slab where the imaging equipment would be placed. By 11pm, it was ready for the concrete truck’s arrival onsite the next day at 6am.

We were back onsite at 5:30am, ready for the concrete pour. After screeding and finishing it off, the job was complete by 7am and the medical centre was able to open to the public by 9am.

* MPA (megapascal) measures the compressive strength of concrete. The megapascal rating determines how much pressure can be applied to concrete without it cracking or failing.
